Hi everyone! We are now with Eve! Our guide met is at our hotel at 8:30 Friday morning and it took about an hour to get to the orphanage. At one point I brought up Google directions because it appeared our guide and driver were disagreeing on how to get there! We said it yesterday, but the traffic in Mumbai is simply insane. Cars and motorcycles and kids on bikes and tuk-tuks and people walking are constantly passing each other and getting in each other’s path, within inches of each other.
We arrived at the orphanage and were greeted by the guard at the gate. When inside we met the Orphanage Director and then we’re brought upstairs. It was really special because as we walked we recognized various rooms from the videos of Eve we had received. Upstairs we were brought into a small physical therapy room where Eve was sitting doing her exercises
with some of the care takers. She greeted us warmly - ”Hi AnnieMommy and DanielPapa!!”
We sat with her in there for a while, meeting various care takers as they came to say hi to Eve. From there we went to a special room where we believe the kids eat their meals. We met about 12 of her kid friends from the orphanage for a little birthday party and ceremony. I was able to make balloon animals for the kids, which I think they enjoyed aside from the occasional balloon popping! We had some treats with the kids. They were so sweet - they too called me “DanielPapa.”
From there we went out to lunch with our guide while Eve took a nap. The food was really good and not too spicy! When we came back we received all the paper work we needed to pick up, including her Indian passport. We then started to leave but that took a while because no child had been at the orphanage longer than she and EVERYONE wanted to say good bye to her with hugs and kisses. They said that once a child turns 6 they have to leave the orphanage and go to a different institution, so she only had one year left if we didn’t adopt her.
We then left and came back to the hotel. Anne gave her a little shower, we ate food and played. She likes her photo to be taken! We leave for the airport at Noon on Saturday for our flight to New Delhi where we will visit various appointments next week. Keep praying! It’s wonderful but very overwhelming!
